Ben

Ben is a senior student at East Juniata High School taking advantage of the high school co-op program. This opportunity allows high school seniors to work in an entry level role within the organization to gain experience in the healthcare field. Ben works at our Mifflintown Family Practice clinic in the medical assistant role where he is highly regarded by both his co-workers and the patients. “My favorite part of this job is when patients tell me ‘You will do great!’ … I am just getting vitals with these patients, but this is extremely rewarding to hear these comments.”

In addition to his role in the Mifflintown Clinic, Ben is busy with a variety of activities such as band, marching band, basketball, and tennis. After high school, he plans to ditch the cold PA weather to attend Florida Tech to study pre-med in the hopes of some day becoming a primary care doctor or plastic surgeon. Ben shared some words of wisdom for anyone considering the co-op program, “… If you plan to be a nurse or a doctor and have no one around you who will push you or give you the knowledge of how to get there. DO THIS PROGRAM. Maybe you will even learn to love something else during this program. Talk with the LPNs, MDs, RNs, ultra- sound, MRI, CT technicians, and phlebotomy, and actively learn from them.”

“I owe a great thanks to all the Geisinger employees here. They have tremendously changed my life and helped improve me as a person. I also thank Melissa Godfrey for helping from the beginning. She has been a great resource and has been so friendly and supportive of my goals.”- Ben Losch

Macy Buskey is another one of our senior students at EJHS taking advantage of Geisinger 's co-op program for her future career in the medical field. Current EJHS juniors may apply for next fall's co-op, starting now. If you have a student who would be interested in working for Geisinger on any level (even non-medical: think culinary, maintenance), please have reach out to Mrs. Sperlich (esperlich@jcsdk12.org) for more information.
