The Juniata County School District Board of Directors is seeking applications to fill a vacancy on the Board due to the resignation of Region 6 (Mifflin, Mifflintown and Thompsontown boroughs) representative Kenneth Dupree.

In accordance with the School Laws of Pennsylvania, the Board intends to fill the vacancy at a public meeting on Thursday, March 16, 2023. The individual appointed will serve until the December 2023 reorganization meeting.

To be eligible to be elected or appointed to a Pennsylvania school board, an individual must be a citizen, at least 18 years old, of good moral character, and a resident of the school district for at least one year prior to the date of election or appointment. To fill this vacancy, the candidate must also live within Region 6.

Board members serve the community in a volunteer capacity. In addition to attending and participating in two monthly meetings, members are expected to serve on Board committees, attend school functions, and advocate for all District students.

All eligible candidates will be interviewed at the public meeting on Thursday, March 16, 2023, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the district’s  administrative office board meeting room, 146 Weatherby Way, Mifflintown.

Once Board approved, the successful candidate will be required to file a statement of financial interests and take an oath of office before entering upon his/her duties.
